The Hidden Benefits Of Improv- If I asked you what you thought would be a great way to ease the anxiety of being on camera behind a news desk, I highly doubt your answer would be ” start doing improv comedy”.
In fact, it would probably be anything but that.
I image this isn’t the first time that reality was not what you would have guessed, but that’s the entire DNA of what irony and comedy are. Irony, by definition, is “the contrast between expectation and reality”, and the same applies for when a joke takes you by surprise.
“I didn’t see that one coming!’ you’d say, or ” It just caught me so off-guard”
Thats exactly how it works though. And when explained to me the concept behind Big Canvas Nebraska, the improv-comedy non-profit Lindsey helped create, I found myself in a similar place, caught off guard by the concept I had never considered–Using comedy lessons, performances and a little bit of laughter to help people step out of their comfort zone to grow, all the while bringing us all a little closer together thru laughter. I won’t go into any more detail about it all, Lindsey can speak well enough for herself, so catch it all in this weeks episode, and to learn more about classes, schedules, how to get involved, or to contact Lindsey, visit www.BigCanvasNE.com or drop Lindsey a line on facebook, just search Lindsey Theis. Enjoy!
